While I didn't find the film the most top notch animated children's film it was quite enjoyable...and my nephews where very entertained. Like the other reviewer said the kids on the way home where hyped about the film for sure :). It does indeed open up on some possible heavy themes like death and consequences of actions..but this is a good thing..for the youngest childeren they where just mesmerized and the action was the thing. But the oldest nephew 8 going on 9 is starting to get the concept of death and mortality and this was a conversation starter on that without a favorite pet or relative having to die first to have "that" conversation. As to the guns....it's animated..you know like bugs bunny..road runner...kids get it! It didn't scar older generations with their "violence" this won't them.
The previous reviewers comments about white supremacy and jailhouse sexual orientation are both unwarrented and over the top IMOA..a commendable animation movie and with knowledge of your children's emotional state a fine pick for your time and money.
I really liked this movie, though I can see why it was rated PG rather than G.
Several parts in this almost made me cry..almost, and I took pride in myself for my good composure. Then, that one part I just couldn't handle and I finally broke down.
Great movie, for adults and kids alike.
I went to see this movie with 3 years daughter and 7 years old son. They laugh and cried. On a way coming home, they were talking of the movie again and again.
They know what they have watched, laughed, thrilled, and cried. In Japan, I heard that 99% of the kids liked it.
Just enjoy it and kids knows about it.
This is not a movie for children, unless you want to stick them in therapy for years. The father watches his son die in a horrible industrial accident, so he builds a surrogate son to replace him, but then goes on to reject the surrogate as well...WTF?
On top of this heavy theme, you have guns all over the place, including one shooting out of his butt.
If you want to raise a brood of white supremacist, jailhouse queer children you will like this flick, other wise pass.
